The Hulu clip I chose to watch for this post was the most recent episode of Modern Family. Modern Family is a perfect show, in my opinion, to watch online as it is mostly carefree and does not require one's ultimate attention. Hulu provides a crisp picture and easy to navigate displays. Despite the ads that come up before and during the show, I enjoy watching television on Hulu. Compared to using many other sites like zshare, wisevid, etc, which can often be unreliable and fuzzy, Hulu provides a fresh, clean viewing experience that is much appreciated considering how much Television I watch on my computer every day.
When I go on Youtube, it is most often for music purposes. If I know that bands that I like are currently on tour I go on and check out their latest performances. These videos are available because of fans that record videos on their phones and cameras and upload them for everyone to see. Here, the quality is usually bad, but I do not watch to hear great quality. I watch to try and experience the concert as if I was there. This is a very different type of online viewing from Hulu. Hulu content is professional and well presented. Youtube prides itself on being a space where anyone can upload and watch whatever they want. It is very hard to compare the two, therefore. They are truly completely different entities. I do enjoy both services though.
I think you make a great point. The two are used for completely different purposes. If I am looking to watch a Television show or even a clip of a show YouTube will not be the first place I go.
ReplyDeleteYouTube is my hub for viral videos and like you said, music. Every once in a while I will watch a clip from Glee on youtube, but not because I want to watch the clip, more because i want to hear the music.
Whenever I am at a party and they don't have a song on the iPod, I know for a fact that I can find it on YouTube and through my iphone I can use the medium as a free music source1
ITS AMAZING!
