Plants vs. Zombies

I had fun trying this game, but the fun didn’t last long. Plants vs. Zombies is too simple to hold my attention for more than 10 minutes. I played through several levels expecting increased challenge... instead I got more of the same easiness. After glancing at several classmates' posts, this seems to be the common complaint. The only element that changed was the variety of “weapons” I had to defend my home. Perhaps I would have been more entertained if the zombies began to move faster, increased in number, fought back, etc.

On a brighter note, I could see a younger demographic of users enjoying this game to a greater degree than college students. And while the content of Plants vs. Zombies may not be educational in the strictest sense, elements of Gee’s “Good Video Games and Good Learning” are present (i.e. interaction, risk taking, well-ordered problems, etc.). That being said, I’m not sure I would encourage children to spend hours at a computer screen watching zombie heads roll.
