Plants vs. Zombies

In PvZ, you plant different types of flowers/vegetables in your garden to kill increasingly difficult zombie invaders. You get different plants by essentially purchasing them with small sun-like orbs that show up sporadically. The further you get in the game, more plants become available to purchase but different, harder zombies begin to invade as well.

This was awesome after watching The Walking Dead. I had played games similar to this before, but the premise was fairly original. I never would've considered zombies to be herbivores, but this game introduced it in a cool way. My favorite part was the bonus bowling round with the crazy farmer.

I liked that each successive level was noticeably different and that you had to adapt your knowledge of the game to keep winning. Within a couple rounds I had worked out a system that was (nearly) perfect. It took me little time to realize that I had to plant more generator plants if I wanted more attack plants. I got bored with the concept after a couple rounds but something about the game kept me playing for a while. It's really entertaining.
