Genre: microblogging service.
Color & textual dimensions: this can get kind of difficult since one is able to manipulate their own background image, but for the most part Twitter utilizes the colors blue, black & white. Aside from the logo, the type face is simple and clean- it looks to uniform across the profile. The logo itself is very modern and kind of evokes an edgy yet playful appeal. Like when said with Yahoo, it's a combination of work & play.
Icons: the little bird! It makes complete sense, right? Because birds tweet. Haha, but nonetheless it's very modern yet organized.
Interactivity/hypertext: I'd argue that you need some advanced understanding of technology or services like this in order to be able to navigate Twitter efficiently. It was hard for me at first, & there's no way in hell my mom could figure it out. Ha. There are a lot of links that bring you different places & your page itself is split into different segments, thus highly interactive.
Borrowed traditions: General purpose human-computer interface & print tradition.
So why is Twitter cute? For one, I think I like it because everything makes sense. Once you understand the navigation, you realize what you can all do with the site. It's clean and simple, yet has a lot of personality- I'd argue definitely more than the aesthetics of Facebook. There's some color, but it's done tastefully. Kind of a happy medium between MySpace, which is really cluttered & potentially overwhelming, & Facebook, which isn't very stylized at all. It's slightly more advanced than Facebook, & as mentioned very modern. & lastly, the bird icon is perfect. I feel like you could see it elsewhere & immediately recognize it as Twitter, but it's also relevant to what Twitter is all about. Now I'm not really sure if I figured out why Twitter is "cute"? Haha, damnit. But either way I can understand why I like its aesthetics & why it can appeal to a lot of people. Tah dah!
