SOME of my final thoughts on Twitter.

Ya, you guessed it. I still have one more post that I will grace you all with tomorrow. So over the past few days I've been thinking about my final thoughts on Twitter. For one, I need to say that this was the best project ever. Not only did a learn a lot, but I really enjoyed myself while doing so. I think tomorrow I'm going to reflect on my Twitter use from here on out & where I think it'll go from here.. so I'll leave it at that for now.
But regardless my experiences with Twitter really helped to supplement several of the topics were covered in class. I was definitely able to understand what Web 2.0 was all about. I feel like Twitter is a prime example of it. In my paper I focused on how within the capacities of Web 2.0, Twitter has unique connections with social networking, identity and community. I think we all understand how Twitter is a social networking device, so with that aside I'll quickly share my findings with identity and community. In regards to identity there's definite negotiations taking place with impression management. You present yourself through lists of followers/following, a single picture, limited bio, but most importantly through tweets! Who you are is essentially a compilation of your tweets. You can make your profile private or open to the public. Your identity is also based on the pictures, links, videos, etc. that you tweet. In regards to community, you basically connect with those whom you have shared interests. Whether you're already friends, or come in contact through a retweet or a #tag, there's definitely a component of shared interest. Conversations take place asynchronously, or even potentially synchronously if who you're communicating with is an extremely active user! Conversations on your own profile are essentially one to many, but your news feed is potentially a multi-diologue.

So there you have it. These are just a few of the connections I've made. I know some of you guys have mentioned that you made a Twitter this semester as well, so I'm sure you can think of more! Maybe some of my practicum posts have been soo intriguing that more of you will in the future. I'm kidding (obviously, but I tried, okay?!). But hopefully you guys will. I think it's worth while. You can definitely cater it to whatever you want to use it for. Whether it's talking to friends, following celebrities, or distraction we all need amidst doing other things. Yay!
