Loving TV a Little Too Much?

Hey Class!

As you may know, I'm doing my Practicum assignment on media fandom, and the fandom behind Fox's megahit, GLEE. I want to propose a question for the class, and have you consider just how much you love your favorite television show. As most of us are Communication Arts majors, I'm going to assume that each of you has a show that you can't bear to miss, or whose DVD sets you own and love. For me, shows like Lost, Dexter, and yes--even Glee-- have found a special place in my heart, but at the same time, I've never felt the urge to join an online community to discuss just how much I love them.

My question to you is this: Pick your favorite show, and glance at one of the online forums/fan sites for that program. What do you think is the benefit of meeting in an online community to talk about that show, ask questions, and share your common interest with others? Would you ever, or have you ever, chosen to participate in these online forums? Do you think that discussing it with others improves your personal experience with that show?

Think about it, and I'll see you all tomorrow!
