Corey and I will be presenting on Second Life and Social MOO tomorrow in discussion section. Between now and then, here are some questions to ponder upon. Bring your answers to class tomorrow!
· If you had to join either Second Life or Social MOO, which would you choose and why?
· How would you design your Second Life/Social MOO avatar? Would you create an avatar that looks and acts like you? Why or why not?
· Why do you think most Social MOO worlds are set in medieval environments?
· Both Second Life and Social MOO are male-dominated virtual realities in terms of users. Why do you think men join virtual realities more often than women? How might the gender disproportion affect site content?
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteI did some exploring in "PS3 Home" recently after you guys did your presentation. It seems a lot like Second Life. I tried to make my avatar look like myself...but failed. I also only noticed one female avatar which everyone was running around hip thrusting. I think that's why there are more guys than women.
Second life seems like a great game. I never got into it because I stopped with online games after World of Warcraft, but if i could choose a new game to enrich my online experience, I would choose this. I will say that second life does seem a little less on the creative side. What is there to do that one couldn't do on their own? is it easier to have your professions? I need to do more research on all of the aspects of the game before i can comment further
ReplyDeleteso it shows all of the cool places you can explore, all of the socializing, wardrobes, and love relationships you can build online. I wonder what people do for money when they work, what can they do? Oh I see, so you can pick your profession and my guess is you start off as a novice and work way up, kind of like Star Wars Galaxies. Sounds interesting. It also looks like a game that finally invites young women to join in on the fun. I will ask my girlfriend what she thinks, THANKS!
