video fun

Last year, for an awkwardly long period of time, my friends and I would circle around a laptop staring back at randoms from around the world. When first showed Chatroullete I (and most of the rest of the world) asked the question, “who on earth would ever sit and do this?” Then, a few moments later, I (and the rest of the world) would find themselves stuck to the screen dodging penises and hoping for any sort of interesting interaction to talk about the next day. Chatroullette is unexplainable fun.

The excitement has, however, worn off for me. I have not chatroulletted for months now and the site no longer leaks itself into everyday conversations. However, for this assignment I was forced to go back on. I was curious: would I enjoy the site as much as I once had? Would I recruit friends to join me in my worldly chats? And of course, the real question on my mind, would I see more or less penises?

My building anticipation had dropped to nothing when I realized the site was still as stupid as it had sounded in the first place only this time it had completely lost its novelty factor; which basically means it’s a creepy and extremely discomforting application that should no longer exist. Novelty was pretty much all that chatroullete had going for them. Some new social networking sites have purpose and payoff. The sites that last are ones that are integrated into your everyday life providing benefits that go beyond sheer entertainment. This site, although fun at start, will not continue to attract the masses. I’m over it.

and now for your enjoyment. Ben Folds uses chatroullete during his concerts. So funny and awesome.
