Web of Support

For my practicum I joined online support groups. The topic I chose is "college stress" because I didn't want to join something I wouldn't know how to participate in. There are also a lot of sad support groups like military families, sexual assault or miscarriage. In essence, I didn't want to be depressed this coming month. One of the things I noticed first is all of the boards have blue backgrounds, a calming color. The interfaces are similar to each other and use print culture organization: folders, lists, boxy, top down. Daily Strength and supportgroups.com, however, are more interactive and allow you to post journals, create videos, share your mood, and give hugs.

I haven't noticed too much about the users because I'm new, but there are quite a few older users on the sites. There was a person on one of the boards who is attending a two-year technical school and is in their 40's. I put a total of eight posts on between the three boards to test out the waters.
