I wanted to explore the Memory Makers site a bit further to see what else it had to offer me on a personal level. Since I am already familiar with scrapbooking, and no longer a newbie (yay!) I thought I would give digital scrapbooking a try. I really do not know anyone that has tried it, and haven't really heard of it until I saw this site. I downloaded a free kit provided by the Memory Makers site. Okay, easy enough. But then it all went downhill from there. The site only gave me a tip on how to download the files, there were absolutely no hints on how to put the pages together. I had no idea where to begin, and felt like I had no help. I was quick to search the "getting started" section for any kind of help, but there was nothing related to digital scrapbooking whatsoever. FAIL. Okay, so I found my first flaw of this site. So, instead, I subscribed to the e-newsletter, and am now just patiently waiting to receive it.
On another note, I came across something pretty creative that I thought I would share with you all. The November/December issue of Memory Makers Magazine featured an article on gratitude journals. Although only a segment of the article was published online, it was easy to get inspired to make your own journal. The author of the article, Courtney Walsh, summarized 11 topics that could pertain to anyone making the journals. I have included them below. I was thinking about what I would do if I were to make one of the journals, and I thought it would be interesting to not only write in the journal that you make, but also include photos and embellishments that symbolize each journal entry. The reason I especially enjoyed this article is that it took the art of scrapbooking, and then bumped it up to the next level. I think that by including other projects, the site could reach a larger audience, or even inspire existing users to step out of their comfort zones and create something new!
Here are 11 topics for gratitude journals that will keep your heart singing.
1. Things that make me laugh
2. Prayers of thanks
3. What I love about myself
4. Opportunities I'm thankful for
5. People who've changed my life
6. Life-changing experiences
7. The job I love best
8. Relationships that make a difference
9. Life's lessons
10. What makes my house a home
11. My defining moments
I think this gratitude journal concept is really sweet! It's always nice to have new ideas to incorporate into scrapbooking...in the past, I've felt washed out of page layout or topics ideas. The topics are inspiring and would be fun to reflect on, and I think that the people who you share your scrapbook with would enjoy looking at those pages! Cool idea! :)
