I am an avid user of both Hulu and YouTube, however to fulfill different objectives. Hulu provides full episodes that are easy to find and watch. I prefer to watch television shows on Hulu because I do not like how YouTube breaks episodes up into multiple segments. Why go through the frustration of waiting for multiple clips to download where you can watch it all-in-one on Hulu?
I did find some similarities among the two services. Both sites divided their content into various categories, including most popular, featured content, and recommendations before you even sign up for an account. Also, both sites post advertisements that are visible before expanding the screen to full size. They also placed a commercial before you able to watch the desired episode, basically forcing you to watch it. Hulu took a step further and had commercial breaks within each episode. On another note, both allowed you to rate, like, comment, share, and add any video to your favorites.
The differences between the two is that Hulu organized content into categories based off of shows, movies, clips, channels, etc. where YouTube breaks it up by genre of videos. For example, you could choose from entertainment, news & politics, sports, comedies, and more.
I prefer Hulu when watching television videos because of the organized layout, simple navigation, and all-in-one format. I love YouTube to be able to easily access user-generated content and rather short clips. Essentially, I use both services, but for different purposes.
