Hulu & YouTube

I started with Hulu first, watching the Halloween episode of ABC's "Modern Family." I noticed right away that the video did not take long to load or buffer or anything of that sort. The quality was awesome, I wouldn't expect anything more from an internet TV show. The ABC logo stayed branded in the corner throughout the entire show, which is great brand visibility for the network. I noticed that during advertisements, Hulu gives users the option to click whether or not the ad is relevant to them. I think this shows that Hulu is trying to establish demographics and the type of audience that certain shows are attracting. Also, the format of Hulu is super easy to use because it is divided into TV and Movie sections, along with most popular, etc. I found what I was looking for right away. I like the recommended videos and participation section on the bottom of Hulu, where users can tag shows, comment, share, etc.

I'm a huge fan of YouTube, but when it comes to searching for something very specific, I don't think it is the most navigatable site to use. I wanted to watch the "Glee" Halloween episode and it was near impossible to find. I gave up and settled for a 3 minute clip of the show (the Time Warp dance). YouTube's search system isn't as organized as Hulu's, probably because anyone can post to it and title videos however they want. But this definitely makes a difference when I'm trying to find something in particular. I do like how it has related videos on the side bar, and comment sections on the bottom. The zero advertisements during the video was nice, but I can't really compare it to the episode of Modern Family on Hulu because it was so much longer.

Overall, the quality of both videos was pretty good, I just like the way Hulu is set up a lot more than YouTube. To me, it's easier to navigate and find what I'm looking for right away.
