twitter updates.

I just realized that I haven't done a blog post in a while regarding my Twitter experience, thus I've decided to this morning. It's funny because Twitter has almost become an integral part of my online habits. You know, like every time I get online, I check my email, my Facebook, and typically my horoscope & ESPN as well. Now I do the same with Twitter. I think this is kind of why I've neglected to post on here in a while. As much as I enjoy Twitter as an online distraction when I should be doing other things, or enjoy checking it quick when I get online, I just feel like it's less engaging than Facebook... Either way, I have done a few new things with it. After the presentation a few weeks ago on Digg, I started retweeting the most ridiculous articles. It's funny to see other's reactions, as well as be part of the whole online circulation world. In addition to that, I started receiving Twitter updates on my phone. I'm pretty sure I registered to do this like a month or two ago, but they didn't start coming to my phone until this last week? Haha, or maybe this is part of my internet incompetency. Either way, it's extremely convenient. Since I don't engage with Twitter as thoroughly as Facebook, I found that I'd miss @mentions. Well, not anymore! So in conclusion, for those of you without a Twitter still (you're not missing out on a wholeeee lot but) make sure you connect it with your cell phone. I'd say that definitely enhances the whole Twitter experience.

  1. Ali--funny to see that twitter has become part of your regular internet stops! I have noticed that my discussion forums and blogs for my practicum project have made their way into my bookmarks and frequently visited sites as well!! haha, funny how a school project can become a hobby. that sure doesn't happen often for me!

  2. Would you say that the majority of common Twitter users actually post statuses, or do they only open up accounts to follow celebrities and other friends? I don't have an account, but if I started one, I would probably only follow celebrities Tweets, just because they are funny (most of the time).

  3. Im not good with twitter at all. I was wondering why we have a twitter feed on this blog page. Its to the right below the labels section and it just seems like random people are posting in are CA346. This is weird and I dont understand how...Could you fill me in?

  4. Coddye, re: the Twitter feed: I just set it up this fall to display everything posted with the "hashtag" #ca346. Normally, it catches tweets from me and others in the full lecture class tweeting about stuff related to the class.

The search function doesn't work perfectly, though - right now, we've got a bunch of other tweets that happen to include ca346, but are clearly not from anything related to class!

  5. Kat- I know, right? This is probably one of the best class assignments I've ever had :).

Trevor- I'd say they do both simultaneously! A lot of people I know are super into it & yes they follow many others (celebrities & normal people, ha), but they also constantly update it based on where they're going, or what they're doing. Remember we talked about those like those sandwich posts? Yes, I see those damn things all the time. So many people feel the need to share useless information. I guess it's kinda fun though.

& Liz- I was going to ask about some of those Twitter updates over there! I know I said sometimes I tweet extremely sarcastic or distasteful things as a joke, I can't say I've taken it that route. It made me laugh but I was hoping they weren't in our class.

  6. I just started tweeting about a month ago, but I am not someone who tells people what I am doing. I tend to post little things or witty comments--most of the time about food related topics. I find that I keep myself into it by not getting overly into it. If i tweeted every hour or even every day, I would probably get bored of it relatively quickly. Plus, do people really enjoy hearing where I am or who I am sitting next to. I find that with my posts I can give people a sense of my personality. I like it better that way.
