So I didn't explore into the world of actually creating my own game. As a non-gamer, it took me awhile to learn how to play the games and explore different options, let alone create a brand new game. I decided to leave it to the experts as the semester is winding down to a close.
I did however did some poking around on the Kongregate site to find out more incase I ever decide to pursue creating my own game in the future.
What I found surprising is the sit actually has money give aways through their weekly and monthly game contest! The first place weekly prize is $250 and the Monthly prize is $1500. There is even a top prize for $15,000! That is definitely incentive enough for me to become an expert in the world of online gaming! The games are all made in the program Flash, which is how they all just play in a browser. I also found out that besides individual participants creating and uploading their own games, many games are also submitted by indie or small gaming companies who see the site as a possible means of distribution. So just as individuals upload "home videos" on to Youtube, a small film may be released on to Youtube in order to gain more exposure. This is what the indie gaming companies hope to do by uploading their games onto Kongregate.
