The thing I found most interesting on the sites I've been following is online identity. Who says what, and what people say when they know other people know who they are (was that confusing?). Basically, I found that when people were able to leave "guest" comments or make up a username for themselves, they were MUCH more likely to be uncensored with their comments. When people wrote comments with their actual name attached, they were more likely to think about what they are saying before they spit out random/biased/inaccurate thoughts. The more intelligent ones identify themselves as a true person rather than making up some b/s username because they are afraid to show their true identity online.
I loved the participatory culture within these websites--more so in wishoops and basketball-reference than on the facebook page. The facebook page was just no good in any way...there was truly no community involved. I'm really excited to keep up with the first two sites I mentioned. Interesting stuff :-)
Well, thats pretty much all I have to reflect on in this blog post. I wish you all luck on your finals and to have a great winter break and safe travels.
