It's been a while...

Soooo in the past few months, I've been doing significant work on my practicum, but haven't been posting about my findings. I'll try to get all of the information into the next four posts!

I decided not to focus solely on the Jewish minority, as I had studied only that group prior to my presentation. Though I found much interesting information by perusing the websites I found and presented on (JDate, the Jewish forum website, etc.), I came to the conclusion that the fact is that Jews haven't been using the internet in ways that are really particular to them. It's only natural for a group of people to seek out online communities, but Jews' use of the internet has been more for internal purposes (organizations, help among particular groups of Jews, etc.) rather than external (community relations, public relations, social awareness, etc.).

I decided to shift my study to the gay minority. I'm still going to be writing about my earlier findings in my paper, but I'll be focusing mainly on the differences between how gays have utilized the web to create social movements, while Jews have kept their internet use to specific functions. More to come!
